Just imagine the following scenario. You are spending endless hours looking for a cool place outside, keen on playing the recently purchased PSP game, waiting to watch an entertaining umd-movie or longing to listen to one's favourite songs… and all of a sudden one´s attention is caught by a constantly blinking light indicating low battery charge.
What can you do now? Run back home to recharge the PSP? Not necessarily! Of course there is a mobile solution allowing endless freedom for your Handheld. Todays candidate is trying to shine among a whole arsenal of accessories for the PSP and it will be the External battery pack by ArrowDotEnergie .

We will not only focus on the functionality of the accessories, since design does matter in the eyes of the owner of an nifty handheld. Right after opening the plastic wrapper of the package we become aware of the obvious similarities with the already tested recharging system from LikSang. Only at the second glance one can see slight differences and some new possibilities that are availible. At the frontside there is a tiny button with and LED informing us about the recent state of left energy. With about 130 gramms the recharging system can comfortably fit and be transported in the pocket of a pant or a shirt, yet not being the lightest out there. As mentioned there are some more deails, that attract our attention at second glance and therefore we find a USB-mini-entrance tat the bottom side of the device. An included adaptor can be hook up either the PSP´s standard power line or the provided USB- power line. To fill up the PSP with some fresh energy there is an USB-port on the bottom side of the device. Here we can hook up the provided cable, which has a special mechanism unroll. As we are talking about a common USB-port the possibility of attaching different other devices and therefore providing them with power from the recharging system is imaginable. The Nintendo DS, Cell phones, portable TVs and PDAs represent only a small number of such devices.

For the first time the battery needs to be charged for about six hours and then can be used without restrictions. The psp recognizing the recharging system as an external power source and this comes up with some advantages and disadvantages. Advantagous is that we have the possibility to setup the screen to the highest brightness level or to recharge the empty standard battery. Yet, as with every other external recharging system there is no indicator showing the left running time. Here the already mentioned signal light can be a useful hint. Instead of promised 11,5 hours it will take about 10 hours of normal use until the recharging system is empty. Another problem with the recharging system is that it quickly loses energy when not in use. Therefore one should avoid extreme resting periods in order to be armed with extra power against sudden surprises while on the train, bus or plane.

In Summary:
All components in the external battery pack by ArrowDotEnergie makes a solid impression. Ten hours of fun with the PSP are a lot to keep the player happy and playing. Furthermore the system convinces by the broad variety of possible usages. If you are willing to pay about 60$ (appr. 46.80 €) you are invited to take a closer look on your own.
